Award (Confidential) - Medical Malpractice - Failure to prevent diagnose
and treat postural hypotension (a drop in blood pressure due to a change
in position) and syncope due to over-medication of high blood pressure medication.
Plaintiff was a 57-year-old mechanic who was treated by his family doctor
for high blood pressure. The defendant doctor failed to recognize that
the combination of blood pressure medicines prescribed had on occasion
caused plaintiff to black out and experience a dangerous drop in blood
pressure. While ascending steps to his daughter's home, Plaintiff experienced
one of these syncopal episodes causing him to fall over the hand rail
onto the concrete steps leading up to his daughter's home. Plaintiff was
rendered a quadriplegic from the fall.
